Comte Georges de Vogüé Wine: The Historic & Noble Domaine of Chambolle-Musigny

Comte Georges de Vogüé is a deeply-rooted estate in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits region, with a history extending back to the mid-15th century. As one of the oldest and most important estates in the area, Vogüé has become an integral part of the village's identity over the course of more than half a millennium. The historic family estate is renowned for producing elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the most revered vineyards of Chambolle-Musigny.

Vogüé Vineyards: Chambolle's Top Terroir

As the largest landowner in the Grand Cru Musigny vineyard, Comte Georges de Vogüé holds an impressive 80% of this hallowed terroir. The estate's holdings also extend to the nearby Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru and the highly sought-after Les Amoureuses Premier Cru. Current winemaker Francois Millet, with his extensive experience as a consultant in Southern France and his studies at Dijon University, employs low-intervention techniques to coax the best out of each vineyard's terroir. His approach results in the creation of outstanding and age-worthy wines that showcase the unique characteristics of their respective sites.

Vogüé Vineyards: The Exceptional Holdings & Vogüé Wines

  • Musigny Grand Cru - Rouge: The Musigny Grand Cru, the estate's crown jewel, is a wine of unparalleled finesse and complexity. Its Pinot Noir expressions offer enchanting bouquet of violets and raspberries gives way to a persistent palate with an incredible ability to age gracefully for decades. This Grand Cru is one of two in all of Burgundy that allows for the production of both white and red wines (the other being Grand Cru Corton in Côte de Beaune).
  • Musigny Grand Cru - Blanc: Vogüé Musigny Blanc is a rare and cherished style, known for its exceptional expression of the Chardonnay grape. However, it was only in 2015 that the label once again bore the Grand Cru designation after a 25-year hiatus. From 1993 to 2015, the wines were declassified to Bourgogne Blanc due to replanting efforts. Winemaker François Millet made the decision to protect the Grand Cru title during this period, as he believed that vines younger than 25 years old could not properly represent the true essence of the terroir.
  • Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru: In contrast, Bonnes-Mares offers a more robust expression due to the higher iron-rich clay found in the soils of their holding. The resulting wines showcase dense ripe fruit with firmer tannins and richer structure.
  • Les Amoureuses Premier Cru: Situated directly downslope and adjacent to Musigny, the Premier Cru Les Amoureuses vineyard yields wines that can rival, and even surpass, the quality of some Grand Cru sites. It is, without question, one of the most stunning examples of Chambolle-Musigny's terroir. Sharing similar soil composition and aspect with its Grand Cru neighbor, Les Amoureuses produces wines that stylistically resemble those of Musigny, exhibiting the same elegance and finesse for which the legendary Grand Cru is renowned.
