Product Description
RP99 "One of the more ethereal, paler, elegant and complex versions of this ungrafted vineyard in the village of Villanueva de Ávila is the 2020 Tumba del Rey Moro. This is closer to the elegant style of Umbrías than their own Umbrías this year. It was a good-yielding year; the vines were very balanced after many years of working them organically and biodynamically (but they're not yet certified). The wine is aromatic and floral, nuanced and fine-boned, mineral and vertical, with a texture of fine sand and light, energy and inner strength to the point where it's impossible to reflect it in a score. It has a faint bitter twist in the finish that is reminiscent of blood orange peel, which drove me crazy. This has to be the finest version of Tumba del Rey Moro to date. Bravo! 1,967 bottles and 50 magnums were filled in May 2022." LG for TWA May 2023
JS99 "One of the palest and most orangey in color of Comando G’s wines. A nose that blows your mind with its zingy grapefruit, crushed raspberries, mineral, lots of tangy white pepper and agave, akin to a lightly herbal and smoky mezcal. Provocative! So fresh, incisive and ethereal, yet so unique. There is intensity and depth here, despite the pale color, with a subtle, bone-dry and lightly reductive palate. Structured tannins, very Barolo-like, with delicious austerity and some bitter herbs and grapefruit in the finish. Long and firm. Goes on and on. One to ponder. A little more austere and not as well-rounded as Rumbo Al Norte, but its’ personality provokes and haunts you. Drink or hold." JS Jul 2023
"Comando G, what to say about Comando G... They have been downsizing their operation and fine-tuning their wines that are expressive of their sites and their vintages, achieving amazing precision. These are highly sought-after wines that deliver world-class Garnacha." Published May 31, 2023
