Legendary 1982 St. Emilion - Chateau l'Arrosee

This producer of a single red blend wine is located on the right bank of Bordeaux in the Saint-Emilion appellation. The chateaux, founded in 1868 by a minister, have changed ownership several times. The Caille family purchased the estate and made major renovations to the vineyards and winemaking process. They also hired consultant, Gilles Pouquet, an experienced winemaker who has worked with other Saint-Emilion producers such as Cheval Blanc and Figeac.
The 24-acre estate has just one wine released a year, prior to 2012, meaning that only the best grapes from the vineyard are chosen for this wine. The soils are limestone and clay, and Saint-Emilion has an oceanic microclimate. The vineyard is composed of around 60 percent Merlot, 20 percent Cabernet Franc, and 20 percent Cabernet Sauvignon.
1982 is a legendary vintage for Bordeaux wines. Some even label it as “one of the greats”. The growing season had a high production and perfect grapes in almost all red varietals. This vintage produced wines that had richness and complex tannins. With a relatively older age, the 1982 Château L’Arrosée is in the perfect stage for drinking.
