1989 Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido, Bolgheri, Tuscany, Bottle (750ml)

"The edges of this wine are turning to brick, we finally get some of the Tuscan terracotta that until now has been remarkably missing. Here I get more obvious tertiary flavours, wonderfully soft bramble fruits. The heat of this vintage has softened the fruit structure to the point that it has now slid out of focus. But this has been exchanged by a spicy warmth and a relaxed invitation to enjoy. It is not as impressive as the 1990 perhaps, but this is still a wine of generosity and warmth. The second bottle tasted was a little younger and more exuberant." JA for DC Oct 2016
