Immortal Wine

Immortality: a concept as elusive as it is alluring. Among Earth's myriad creatures, only the jellyfish defies the inevitable march of time—a fitting emblem for Immortal Estate's pursuit of vinous perfection. Nestled in the rugged terrain of Sonoma County, this winery crafts wines that transcend the temporal, creating liquid legacies that endure.

Immortal Wine: History & Winery

Born from Hidden Ridge Vineyards, Immortal Estate emerged in 2017 under new ownership. The estate was first planted in 1991 by Casidy Ward and Lynn Hofacket before beginning operations as a wine estate in 2001. While Hidden Ridge Vineyards crafted some of Napa Valley's greatest Cabernets, the estate was relatively unknown due to a lack of marketing.

In stepped Timothy Martin, co-founder of Tusk Estates, who purchased the estate alongside Randy Nichols, a premier businessman in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. The pair brought a plethora of experience to the project, with Tim Martin previously working at Lail Vineyards and Nichols specialising in commercial and luxury real estate. Upon taking over, Martin and Nichols kept Timothy Milos as Head Winemaker. Milos is noted for crafting Hidden Ridge Vineyards' 2013 Impassable Cabernet Sauvignon, a rare 100-point wine rated by Robert Parker, and the 2009 Slope Cabernet, which landed at #32 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2014.

Immortal Estate Wine: Winemaking & Terroir

Immortal Estate's limited production focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon, yielding bottles that balance power with finesse. These wines consistently garner critical acclaim, embodying both their mountainous origins and the meticulous craft behind them.

The prestigious 150-hectare vineyard is set in the Fountaingrove District, Sonoma County's newest AVA. Furthermore, the site borders land between Mount Hood and Diamond Mountain in the western Mayacamas Mountains, possessing a unique blend of Napa and Sonoma terroirs. Its high elevation is subjected to eastern and southeastern exposure and is protected from inland heat, while receiving cooling from early morning and late afternoon breezes.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant varietal on the site, and only 1 acre of Chardonnay and Petit Verdot are planted. The steep slope and lean, volcanic basalt and sandy loam soils limit vine vigor and produce small fruit. When blended for the final cuveè, the fruit displays well-developed tannins and rich texture, yet still preserves complex characters and natural acidity.

In the cellar, renowned winemaker Timothy Milos and the Immortal Wine team meticulously select fruit each day of the harvest. After hand-picking and sorting nine lots over 11 days, the fruit undergoes a cold soak pre-fermentation, then a maceration post-fermentation for 28-38 days. Next, daily pump overs are given, followed by a gentle pressing into 75% new French oak barrels, and then lastly bottled unfiltered.

Immortal Estate: Notable Vintages

The two flagship Immortal Wines are the estate Cabernets: Slope and Impassable Mountain. Both wines are continuations of Hidden Ridge Vineyards and are produced in small allocations, at less than 350 cases each vintage. Dark, rich, and full-bodied, Immortal Estate Cabernet is the perfect bottle for Napa drinkers to acquire.

Immortal Estate Impassable Mountain

Impassable Mountain is known for its classic Napa, full-bodied, rich profile, exuding a dark-berry bouquet and deep garnet color. On the palate, the wine is smooth with supple tannins and is known to last for at least a decade in the cellar. The long, savory finish is loved by drinkers, and, with less than 350 cases produced, has become a coveted bottle for collectors.

Immortal Estate Slope

Immortal Estate Slope Cabernet is an evolution from the Hidden Ridge Wine of the same name. Crafted with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine serves as Immortal Wine's flagship label and is produced at around 1,000 cases each year. Bottles display a similar character to the Impassable Mountain Cabernet, but feature a lighter hue and lavender and mineral notes. The flavor is filled with black fruits, with herb and earthy accents, acting as a more mature counterpart in Immortal Wine's portfolio.
