Amidst the legendary names of Vosne-Romanée, such as DRC, Domaine Leroy, and Méo-Camuzet, an internal evolution has been quietly unfolding at Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux. Since 2011, Charles Lachaux, alongisde the help of his parents Pascal and Florence, has worked tirelessly to revive the Domaine's legacy. With minimal experience, Lachaux took over winemaking duties with fresh eyes and a thoughtful approach, making significant adjustments in the vineyard and cellar that have propelled Arnoux-Lachaux to Burgundy excellence. 

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux Beginnings

Arnoux-Lachaux was founded in 1858 by Charles Arnoux in the heart of Vosne-Romanee. Soon after, his son, Robert Arnoux, took charge of the domaine and established its long-standing name, Domaine Robert Arnoux. For more than fifty years, the domaine operated under this title and became renowned for crafting elegant Pinot Noirs from Grand Cru, Premier Cru, and Village vineyards.

In 1987, Robert was joined by his daughter, Florence Arnaux-Lachaux, and her husband, Pascale Lachaux. After the former winemaker passed in 1995, the couple became sole owners of Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux and slowly added more land to the domaine's holdings. Over the years, this gradual transformation spawned a new era in quality, inspiring a change in name to Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux in 2008 to reflect this shift. Today, the ethos of modest innovation continues in the hands of Robert’s grandson Charles Lachaux, who has forged his own path by continuing to rethink all aspects of winemaking. The constant re-evaluation of technique and philosophy ensures the overall approach remains in service of the grapes and the terroir, not of trends or tradition.

Arnoux-Lachaux Terroir

Having inherited parcels from some of Côte d’Or’s top villages, Arnoux-Lachaux showcases consistency throughout Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Ultimately, the domaine holds 14 hectares of land in these regions, with prime real estate in vineyards like Romanee-Saint-Vivant, which hosts names like DRC, Leroy, and Dujac. Arnoux-Lachaux, however, is most famous for its Premier Cru wines from Vosne-Romanee. 

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanee

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux owns land in 3 vineyards in the coveted Vosne-Romanee appellation. These vineyards include Les Suchots, Les Chaumes, and Aux Reignots. 

Arnoux-Lachaux Les Suchots is arguably the domaine's greatest site in Vosne-Romanee, with 0.74 hectares in the vineyard, which is seen as a Grand Cru contender. Around 4,500 bottles are produced each vintage from this vineyard, making Arnoux-Lachaux Les Suchots one of Burgundy's most sought after Pinot Noirs. Furthermore, the Arnoux-Lachaux Aux Reignots Pinot Noir is crafted from 0.20 hectares of land. Low yields are produced from this site and only 350 bottles are released to the public each year. 

Charles Lachaux: Star Winemaker 

Since joining his family in 2011, Charles Lachaux has skyrocketed into international stardom at the young age of 33. Four years after his start, Charles took full control of the domaine and has implemented low intervention winemaking and organic and biodynamic processes that have completely transformed the final cuvees. He has gone on record stating he envisions Arnoux-Lachaux rivalling his dear friend Lalou Bize-Leroy's Domaine Leroy as one of Burgundy's greatest estates. And, in 2022, his ambitions were confirmed, as Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux placed second behind Domaine Leroy in Liv-Ex's Power 100 List. The publication stated, "[Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is] this year’s second most powerful label… the estate has been one of the region’s rising stars for a few years now, but demand exploded in 2021-2022."

 Furthermore, the star winemaker was awarded Golden Vines’ World’s Best Rising Star Award in 2022, leading to a personalized endorsement from French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. What followed was a frenzy of emails and phone calls from international journalists, publications, and merchants inquiring for bottles from the domaine's low production. Now with 15 years of experience, Charles Lachaux's ceiling looks to be unlimited, and along with his exponential growth, Arnoux-Lachoux continues to grow into one of Burgundy's greatest wines.
