Chateau Hosanna - Elegance In The Heart Of Pomerol

A Pinnacle Of Elegance In The Heart Of Pomerol

Nestled in the heart of Pomerol, Château Hosanna stands as a jewel-like vineyard, epitomizing the excellence and tradition associated with the renowned Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. This prestigious estate has a rich history that intertwines with the visionary journey of the Moueix family, shaping it into the gem it is today.

The Visionary Journey Of Moueix

The story of Château Hosanna is inseparable from the visionary journey of Jean-Pierre Moueix, the founder of Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. Born in Correze in 1913, Jean-Pierre moved to Saint-Émilion with his parents in the wake of the Great Depression. Recognizing the untapped potential of Merlot grapes and the unique terroir of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion, Jean-Pierre Moueix embarked on a journey that would redefine the wines of the region.

In 1950, Jean-Pierre began acquiring renowned vineyards, starting with Château La Fleur-Pétrus, followed by Château Magdelaine and Château Trotanoy. The pinnacle of his career came with the acquisition of Château Petrus, a move that solidified the legacy of the Moueix family in Bordeaux. Jean-Pierre Moueix, remembered for his cultural richness, generosity, and wisdom, passed away in 2003 at the age of 90.

Continuing The Legacy

Christian Moueix, Jean-Pierre's son, joined the family business in 1970. Passionate about viticulture, he assumed various roles within the company before becoming its President in 1991. Under Christian's leadership, the family business expanded its vineyard holdings, acquiring remarkable sites like Château Hosanna in 1999, Château Providence in 2005, and the historic Château Bélair in 2008.

Edouard Moueix, the third generation in the family business, joined in 2003. His focus on developing the distribution of Left Bank wines and key acquisitions, such as Château Bélair-Monange in 2008, has further solidified the family's presence in the wine world. The expansion of Château La Fleur-Pétrus in 2012 showcases Edouard's commitment to continuous improvement.

Château Hosanna

Château Hosanna, originally known as Château Certan Giraud, was acquired by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1999. The vineyard has a history dating back to the 16th century when it was part of the de May family estate. Selected parcels from its predecessor, Château Certan Giraud, were carefully chosen to form the exquisite Château Hosanna.

The Vineyard

Situated in the core of Pomerol's central plateau, Château Hosanna is a small, beautiful vineyard spanning only 4.5 hectares planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. It finds itself surrounded by some of the most renowned crus of the appellation, with Château Lafleur to the north, Château Petrus to the east, Château La Fleur-Pétrus to the west, and Vieux Château Certan to the south.

The terroir of Pomerol is known for its distinct characteristics, and Château Hosanna's vineyards are no exception. The Châteaus soil characterized by red gravel and clay on "crasse de fer" (iron-rich clay), is renowned for producing wines of exceptional elegance, complexity, and power. Old Cabernet Franc vines, some dating back to 1956, contribute to the unique complexity of this cru. Described as a marriage of intensity, purity, and balance, Château Hosanna is often considered the feminine counterpart to Trotanoy, showcasing a silky touch that captivates wine enthusiasts worldwide.

Winemaking Philosophy

In the expansive vineyards, the Director of Properties, alongside a dedicated team of vineyard workers, tends to each vine with unwavering attention throughout the year. The focus on soil health is paramount, employing precise plowing methods to maintain the vineyards. The growing season witnesses a commitment to quality, involving practices such as de-budding, canopy management, and green harvests—a technique pioneered by Christian Moueix in 1973. These meticulous selection processes ensure that only the finest grapes contribute to the winemaking process.

Vinification and aging are artfully tailored to the unique characteristics of each vineyard parcel, preserving the fruit's essence and the nuances of each block. The cellar master orchestrates the aging process, harmoniously integrating the characteristics of each barrel with every individual lot. This delicate dance between tradition, terroir, and skill ensures that Château Hosanna's wines are not just beverages but expressions of the land and the teams unwavering commitment to excellence.

Excellence & Elegance

Château Hosanna stands as a symbol of excellence and elegance in Pomerol, producing wines that capture the essence of the region's terroir and winemaking traditions. Whether you are a seasoned wine collector or a novice enthusiast, exploring the offerings of Château Hosanna is a journey into the heart of Bordeaux's winemaking legacy.
