Product Description

AG95 "The 2002 Opus One is in a gorgeous spot right now. Ripe and plummy, with stunning aromatic presence, the 2002 offers alluring up-front fruit, cedar, tobacco, mint and dried flowers. There's lovely savoriness from the early picks to balance the more overt, kirsch-like fruit from the later picks. I would prefer to drink this over next decade or so." AG for VM May 2024

JD95 "The 2002 Opus One is a clear step up over the 2001 and offers a round, lush, classic Napa style in its ripe black fruits, smoked tobacco, chocolate, and cedar pencil-like aromatics. Full-bodied on the palate, it stays nicely balanced, has ripe, supple tannins, and a great finish. If the 2001 is Bordeaux-like, this is pure Napa Valley goodness. It’s fully mature yet should easily evolve for another 10-15 years as well." JD Feb 2023

RP94 "I tend to think that recent vintages of Opus One are even greater than vintages made during this era, but the 2002 is certainly one of the top wines Opus has produced during the early part of this century. It boasts a dense plum/purple hue along with a striking bouquet of graphite, toasty oak, creme de cassis and acacia flowers. Full-bodied, opulent and young, it offers accessibility as well as silky tannins. A thoroughly complete wine that is pure and rich, it tastes like a hypothetical blend of a great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon married to a Bordeaux Pauillac. Bravo! It will benefit from 2-3 more years of cellaring and should keep for 20-25 thereafter." RP Jun 2012

LP94 "Deep garnet in color with a touch of brick, the 2002 Opus One bursts with creme de cassis, blackberry preserves, and sandalwood notes, followed by hints of bay leaves, cigar box, and tilled soil, plus a waft of tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam packed with black and blue fruits, supported by plush tannins and compelling freshness, finishing long and earthy." LPB for TWI Jan 2023
