Product Description

LP99 "Very deep purple-black colored, the 2019 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemola (all coming from The Third Twin vineyard) needs a slight shaking to wake up a shockingly intense perfume of lilacs, orange blossoms, and cinnamon stick, over a slow-to-be-roused core juicy blueberries, fresh blackberries, and baker’s chocolate, with a waft of mossy tree bark. Full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house with a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and a refreshing line to support the tightly, gracefully knit layers, finishing long and swooningly fragrant. 429 cases were made." JD98+ "The 2019 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo comes from the Third Twin estate vineyard, which was purchased in 2000. At that time, the vineyard covered 14.33 acres planted to Syrah and Petite Sirah, and the Krankls planted a mix of different varieties starting in 2011. Today, the estate covers just over 35 acres, and this is a cooler, sandy terroir. The wine sports a deep purple hue as well as a monster bouquet of blackberries, Italian leather, dried herbs, smoke tobacco, and pepper. Full-bodied on the palate, it's another seamless, perfectly balanced red from this team that somehow manages to bring incredible richness and power while staying flawlessly balanced and elegance. A blend of 33% Grenache, 23.5% Syrah, 19% each of Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah, and the rest Graciano and Muscat, fermented with 19% whole clusters, it shows the more elegant, refined, silky style of this terroir beautifully. I like it today, but smart money will give bottles 2-4 years in the cellar. It should have 15-20 years of overall longevity." JD Aug 2022

Lisa Perrotti-Brown for The Wine Independent writes, "Very deep purple-black colored, the 2019 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemola (all coming from The Third Twin vineyard) needs a slight shaking to wake up a shockingly intense perfume of lilacs, orange blossoms, and cinnamon stick, over a slow-to-be-roused core juicy blueberries, fresh blackberries, and baker’s chocolate, with a waft of mossy tree bark. Full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house with a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and a refreshing line to support the tightly, gracefully knit layers, finishing long and swooningly fragrant. 429 cases were made.
This 2019 vintage is a blend of 33% Grenache, 23.5% Syrah, 19% Mourvèdre, 19% Petite Sirah, 4% Graciano, and 1.5% Muscat. The fermentation included 19% whole clusters, and it was aged for 33 months in 13% new French oak barrels, 21% used barrels, and 66% cement tank (after that portion was in barrels for 1.4 years).
This is the fourth edition of this single vineyard cuvee from The Third Twin estate in Los Alamos. Purchased by Elaine and Manfred in 2010, The Third Twin is a medium-warm site. The soil is almost pure sand, and it is mainly planted to Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Mourvedre with smaller plantings of Graciano. The majority grape for the blend this year is Grenache, as it was in 2017, although in the past, it has been Mourvèdre (2016) and Petite Sirah (2018) dominant." Published: Aug 24, 2022
