RP96 "As good as other cuvées from Abreu are, I am beginning to believe that my favorite vineyard in Napa Valley may be the site that David Abreu co-owns with Ric Forman, the Thorevilos Vineyard. Situated on a steep hillside behind the luxury resort of Meadowood, it is, bizarrely, not entitled to any AVA. This cuvée is normally a blend of 45%-60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30%-40% Cabernet Franc and the rest tiny dollops of Petit Verdot and Merlot. The 2011 Proprietary Red Thorevilos exhibits classic notes of white flowers, blueberries, blackberries, and hints of chocolate and wet rocks, a full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet tannin and an incredibly long finish. In a vintage that offered so many challenges, this wine’s purity and full-bodied texture are remarkable. Drink it over the next 15-20 years." RP Oct 2014

AG96 "Powerful and tannic to the core, the 2011 Thorevilos is the most backward of the Abreu 2011s. What else is new? Time in the glass releases a mesmerizing array of dark fruit, graphite, crushed rocks, menthol, new saddle leather, blood orange and dried herbs. I would give the 2011 another few years in bottle, as the tannins could still use a bit of time to soften." AG for VM May 2022

"As I wrote last year, the work that the famous viticulturist and wine producer David Abreu does, along with his assistant Brad Grimes, is at the top of the qualitative hierarchy in California, if not the entire world. His four vineyards produce ravishing wines of great richness, complexity and aging potential. Even in vintages where others might stumble, such as 2011, somehow Abreu’s magic in the vineyard translates into wines of fabulous intensity and compelling quality in the bottle. Obviously, great vintages such as 2010, 2012 and 2013 offer potentially profound drinking experiences. None of this comes cheap, nor are these wines easy to access as virtually everything is sold via a mailing list and to a handful of the nation’s finest restaurants. In any event, tasting with Abreu and Grimes was one of the highlights of my recent trip to Napa." RP OCt 2014
