Mugnier - Clos de la Maréchale

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier - Clos de la Maréchale

Synonymous with quality, Domaine Mugnier is known for crafting some of the lightest and most ethereal Pinot Noirs in the world. High critic scores, and access to some of the world's finest vineyard sites have placed Mugnier among the most demanded Burgundy on the market. Having a hard time finding burgundy to drink? Consider the Mugnier Clos de la Maréchale!

"I want the character of the vintage to be reflected in the wine as much as the terroir."

Frederic Mugnier

Speaking of Terroir, you all either know or have a sense of "Clos" and of "monopole" but here is what the definitions are:
A clos (French 'enclosure') is a walled vineyard. The word is often used in the name of famous wines even when the wall no longer exists.
Monopole means that there is only a single producer that makes wine from this vineyard.

For those of you who HAVE to have Grand Cru, and really, isn't that all of us? We are proud to offer multiple vintages of Mugnier Grand Cru, so elegant that can be enjoyed NOW, both young and with some bottle age! Check out our Grand Cru Musigny and Bonnes Mares!

Critical Acclaim:

2006 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Clos de la Maréchale
"Representing the third Mugnier estate-bottling of this monopole (long leased to Faiveley), the 2006 Nuits-St.-Georges Clos De La Marechale boasts deep, sweet black raspberry and dark cherry fruit tinged with vanilla; a plusher texture and at the same time greater clarity to nuances of peat, crushed stone, fruit pit, and mineral salts than exhibited by the 2005; and a long, soothing, yet refreshing finish. I suspect this will be worth following for the better part of a decade." DS for WA Dec 2009

2007 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Clos de la Maréchale
"A ripe, fresh and slightly herbal nose combines notes of red and blue pinot fruit, soil tones and a touch of underbrush that can also be found on the fresh, pure and racy silky textured flavors that possess real verve on the dusty, linear and palate staining finish. Lovely if lighter than either the 2005 or 2006 versions." AM Jan 2010

2005 Jacques-Frederic Mugnier Musigny Grand Cru | BurgHound 97

"The intense and now slowly, indeed almost grudgingly maturing Pinot fruit just explodes from the glass offering beautifully nuanced smoke, violets and a cornucopia of red fruit. The mid-palate is still relatively tight with flavors that are so precise that they seem to etch themselves into your palate before joining with a seamless finish that seems to go on and on. Mugnier once told me that this is the finest wine he has ever made and I don't doubt it for a second. This is "thrill a second" juice that should drink well for another 15 to 20 years, perhaps longer. The word "brillliant" does not seem adequate to describe just how good this wine is." Allen Meadows May 2011
