98 Point Lafleur and 100 Point Petrus Magnum!
1998 Bordeaux wine from Pomerol and St. Emilion are stunning examples of what the Right Bank does best when the region produces ripe Merlot and Cabernet Franc! 1998 Bordeaux wine from Pomerol gets a slight edge over St. Emilion. The wines from Pomerol are everything you’d hope for. They are rich, concentrated, ripe, pure, lush, opulent and offer hedonistic charms.
The wines of Lafleur are uncharacteristic for Pomerol in their composition. The blend is an almost perfect 50/50 split of Merlot and Cabernet Franc — an unusually harmonious balance of these two grapes. Production levels are tiny for a Bordeaux property. The 4.5-hectare vineyard produces only 1,000 cases per vintage, which is small, even by the standards of Right Bank properties (compare for instance, Cheval Blanc, which fills around 8,000 cases on the Left Bank, and Margaux, which produces around 12,000 cases).

“one of the most distinctive, most exotic, and greatest wines – not only in Pomerol, but in the world.”
- Robert M. Parker, Jr.
"Black truffles, with intense ripe blackberry and black cherry. Superperfumed. Very spicy, with brown sugar and meaty undertones. Full-bodied, with supertight, powerful tannins and a long and rich finish. This is a weight lifter on the palate for its muscular tannins, but it finishes with finesse and beauty. Wow." JS Jun 2009.

"The 1998 Petrus goes from strength to strength as it ages. It's a perfect wine and the wine of the vintage with Le Pin and Cheval Blanc. I was lucky enough to drink some over the weekend when a friend brought a bottle to dinner. It was stunning. It's so deep and characterful yet refined and subtle. It showed aromas of wet earth, mushrooms and dark fruits. Dry black olives came out as well. Full body, firm tannins and bright acidity. Very fresh and just opening up now. Walnut and chocolate character. So youthful. Decant two or three hours before serving." JS Jun 2016

"2000 Chateau La Fleur-Petrus | "It is a terrific effort from this estate, sandwiched between the hallowed vineyards of Petrus and Lafleur. A deep plum/ruby color is followed by aromas of mocha, kirsch liqueur, loamy soil, spice box, and licorice. It is an opulent, medium to full-bodied, big, substantial yet elegant, precise Pomerol displaying beautiful purity. It is just beginning to drink well, and should continue to age for another 10+ years." RP Jun 2010
