The 2005 is one of the monumental wines of the vintage, and may eclipse their prodigious 1990. Inky/blue/purple-colored with an exceptional bouquet of Asian spices, blueberries, blackberries, truffles, cold steel, graphite, and charcoal, it hits the palate with exceptional purity, laser-like precision, a compellingly concentrated, multilayered mouthfeel, a broad, savory texture, terrific acidity, and substantial, but sweet tannins. LP98+ "The 2005 Troplong Mondot is deep garnet, with a touch of brick, in color. It storms out of the glass with powerful notes of plum pudding, black cherry preserves, and blueberry pie, giving way to hints of mint tea, unsmoked cigars, and star anise, with a touch of fallen leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is dense and muscular, with loads of savory layers and a very firm, grainy texture, finishing with a refreshing mineral burst.
