2018 Domaine Georges Roumier, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, Les Combottes, Bottle (750ml)
"Scents of cherries, raspberries, rose hips, sweet soil tones and subtle espresso roast introduce the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Combottes, a medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent wine that's deep and fleshy but nicely defined. Roumier notes that his parcel of Combottes is located in a warm and stony depression and that it's always picked quite early in the harvest." WK Jan 2020

Christophe Roumier was quite sanguine about his 2018s, declaring without hesitation his preference for the sappy, more transparent 2017s—wines I'll be revisiting from bottle in due course—but he has nonetheless once again produced some of the finest wines of the vintage in the Côte de Nuits. Muscular, textural and gourmand, these are generous, enveloping red Burgundies that nonetheless remain lively and dynamic. For now, it goes without saying that Roumier's 2018s come warmly recommended.
