VM "The 1959 Petrus was my second bottle within six months. This is another splendid example. It has a fabulous bouquet with intense red fruit aromas infused with blood orange, crushed stone and just a hint of gingerbread. There is a brilliant sense of mineralité and tension in this Petrus as it gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps eschewing the corpulence you sometimes find in this vintage. Fine-boned with impressive clarity and poise, it fans out gloriously with its tensile red fruit toward the finish, where faint hints of clove and bay leaf linger in the mouth."
