JS98 (Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore, Italy) "Alluring aromas of lead pencil and currants with crushed stone and iodine. Full-bodied with hemmed in tannins that are tight and focused. Very fresh and energetic with wonderful length and intensity for this vintage. Needs four or five years to come together. Better in 2028 and onwards." JS Jun 2023
DR97 (Ornellaia, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bolgheri, Superiore, Tuscany, Italy, Red) "Aromas of ripe blackcurrants with layers of wood spice and smoke. Dense in the mouth with great viscosity, rich in texture with a good depth of fruit concentration. The alcohol is well integrated and balanced with fresh acidity; the tannins provide grip and structure. The oak is still sitting on top, but will blend with further time in bottle." AG96 (Ornellaia Ornellaia Red) "The 2020 Ornellaia is a gorgeous, elegant wine. Seamless and wonderfully deep on the palate, the 2020 is super-refined from the outset. Even with all of its depth, the 2020 retains terrific freshness and cut to play off its soft, succulent fruit. Overall, the 2020 looks to be a relatively accessible Ornellaia that will drink well with minimal cellaring. I especially admire the precision and understated finesse here." AG Aug 2023
JD96 " Pouring a regal red color, the 2020 Ornellaia is sunny and inviting, with lush aromas of sweet fruits, including raspberry coulis, black cherry, dark mineral earth, cedar, and licorice candy. Expansive through the palate, it offers fabulous and polished tannins, a plush and velvety texture, and structure that’s well-balanced throughout. A mouthwatering touch of black tea on the finish rounds out this wine nicely, and it will do well to cellar." AF for JD Jan 2024
Every year since the release of Ornellaia 2006 a contemporary artist has designed a site-specific work of art for the estate and a set of limited-edition labels, inspired by a word chosen by the Estate Director to describe the character of the new vintage.
The Vendemmia d’Artista project involves the limited-edition production of 111 large-format bottles (100 Double Magnums, 10 Imperials and 1 Salmanazar), which are numbered and signed personally by the artist. Since 2012, every case of Ornellaia has included one bottle featuring a label created by the artist. Collectors around the world compete for these bottles, most of which are sold during an annual charity auction to support the world of art.
The character of Ornellaia 2020, the 15th edition of Vendemmia d’Artista, was “La Proporzione” (Proportion), which evokes the perfect balance between parts and the whole. Joseph Kosuth was the artist chosen to interpret “La Proporzione”.
