Product Description
"Subtle wood spice notes set off the mostly red pinot fruit aromas nuanced by hints of game and underbrush that can also be found on the detailed, generous and full-bodied flavors that are generous and frank yet really quite fine on the dusty and palate staining finish. Overall, this is an impressive set of wines and I have to agree with Potel in that 2005 is the best vintage that I have ever seen from him." AM BarrelTasting Jan 2007
Nicolas Potel, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
"Nicolas Potel candidly describes the 2005 growing season as "basically perfect. We had a great and uniform flower set, which means that the grapes ripened uniformly as well. About the only aspect I wish was different is that the crop was a small one and thus there wasn't as much to purchase. And this definitely affected me because with very few exceptions, every wine we made was from purchased fruit, not wine. As to the wines, 2005 is the best vintage since I started in 1997 and by a fair margin. It's a classic vintage as well with suave and generous flavors yet the wines are very precise and best of all, they reflect their underlying terroirs even better than they did in 2004. But the most interesting aspect of the vintage is the length as the average wine is much more persistent then usual. Moreover, they will be true long distance runners yet because of the generosity of the mid-palates, they will be approachable young." Potel said that because the phenolics were so ripe he did very little destemming and in many cases, none at all.
