1994 Malescot St. Exupery - Wine Advocate # 109, Feb 1997: This well-placed Margaux estate has turned things around as evidenced by the tasting notes for the 1993-95 vintages. A dark ruby color, and an herbaceous, curranty, vanillin-scented nose are attractive, but what I find especially appealing about the 1994 Malescot-St.-Exupery is its layered, richly fruity, beautifully pure style. It is not a big wine, but it possesses good intensity, a sense of grace and balance, and the impressive ability to open and expand after 5-10 minutes of airing. This should turn out to be a stylish effort that may merit a higher score if the herbaceousness turns into a cedary component after 3-4 years of bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2016.
