Product Description
AG98 "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is flat-out stunning. That's the good news. The not so good news is that it remains very, very young! Apparently, the three years Randy Dunn gave the 2001 in barrel were not enough. Dark, powerful and brooding, the 2001 is an especially somber wine packed with dark fruit, gravel, spice and menthol accents. This is the sort of wine that make you hope actuarial tables are on your side! Quite frankly, the 2001 might need another decade to be at its best, but I am hopeful five might be enough. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Vineyard sources in 2001 were Trailer, Frank and Park Muscatine." AG for VM Apr 2023
VM97 "Dark red with ruby highlights; appeared to grow darker with air. Deep aromas of plum, mocha, iodine, loam, licorice, brown spices and graphite, accented by a hint of black pepper. Wonderfully juicy and light on its feet, conveying intriguing dark fruit, spice and saline mineral intensity and outstanding thrust. This wonderfully penetrating wine is still a baby. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and outstanding slowly building length. This wonderfully complete, classy wine boasts powerful structure and strong salinity and actually went into a shell in the glass. It should still be held for several years and it should go on for decades." ST for VM Jun 2020
"Howell Mountain.... typically demands 20 years to enter its early peak. These Cabernets are for the patient, but make no mistake about it, in top vintages the Howell Mountain is one of the great wines, not just of California, but of the world." AG for The Wine Advocate Published: Dec 22, 2011
