LP100 "A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot, the 2002 Dominus has a deep garnet color, with a slight hint of brick. It is a little closed and broody to begin, needing some convincing to encourage notes of tar, black truffles, tobacco leaf, and cast-iron pan, leading to a core of plum pudding, blackberry preserves, and blackcurrant jam, plus a waft of charcuterie. The full-bodied palate is packed with youthful blackberry preserves and earthy layers, supported by fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering meaty/savory note. Even better than I predicted seven years ago, this 4,500-case blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot has blossomed beautifully, revealing even greater intensity and potential than I predicted.
