DR97 "Richly aromatic but not overripe, this is is still expressive but a bit more elegant than when I tasted out of barrel. It offers ripe apple and pear with hints of hazelnut and spice, balanced by a citrus edge and enough freshness on the palate to bring everything back into focus. The 3ha holding is divided into four parcels, each vinified and aged separately in large and small barrels to capture the freshness, giving the wine vibrancy that bodes well for the future. 20,416 bottles produced." Tangerine peel, passion fruit, white flowers, apricot, marzipan and a whole range of tropical inflections make a strong opening statement. This extroverted young Corton-Charlemagne should develop well. Time in the glass brings out its density and striking, resonant personality, but more than anything else, the Corton-Charlemagne really captures the exuberant side of the year.
