JD97 "The 2018 Château Péby Faugères is another sensational wine from this team. As always, it's all Merlot and was brought up in 65% new oak, offering a dense purple hue as well as a mammoth-sized personality. Red and black fruits, new leather, dried herbs, leather, tobacco, and chalky minerality all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, powerful mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and a great, great finish. It's one of those rare wines that brings incredible richness and depth while also holding onto remarkable purity, no sensation of weight or heaviness, and beautiful balance. It's not for the old school traditionalists out there given its ripeness level, but wow, what a wine. Give bottles another couple of years and enjoy over the following two decades." JD May 2024
