DR98 "The 2016 vintage ushered in a cool August, and the wines are gaining richness and depth as of 2024, nearly a decade on. The 2016 Philip Togni Cabernet presents a deep crimson hue and is immediately super aromatic upon pulling the cork. You'll find bright, dusty minerals, cassis, dried florals, and herbs on the nose. The palate is wonderfully expressive, with layers of black cherry fruit intertwined with subtle tobacco notes. Savoury elements course through this wine, revealing hints of charcuterie, tanned leather, and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, it builds richness on the palate, gaining depth and complexity with air while remaining incredibly youthful. Compact and marked by firm tannins, with a long, saline mineral thread that carries through to an extended finish. This wine can be thoroughly enjoyed alone or paired with a meal." JC for DR Aug 2024
