Product Description

DR97 Super-ripe cherry and raspberry nose, with no trace of jamminess. Very rich and compact, and undoubtedly tannic, yet this is among the most polished of the Bonnes Mares, lifted by an almost racy acidity. There is tension and vigour, but also an underlying fleshiness and weight of fruit. Powerful but not overbearing, and very long on the finish.

RP 96+ The 2015 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is a young classic, revealing a youthful bouquet of cherries, red berries, candied peel, rose petal and currant leaf, with little to hint at the savory bass notes to come. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with an ample chassis of chalky tannins cloaked in a deep core of intense, crunchy fruit, its finish long and taut. This Bonnes Mares is more structurally assertive than the Clos Saint-Denis and even the elegant Clos de la Roche, and it will demand correspondingly greater patience while it develops in the cellar." BH96 There is enough reduction present to warrant decanting this if you're tempted to try a bottle young. Otherwise there is good freshness to the rich, powerful and overtly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that coat the palate with dry extract before culminating in a hugely long finish where the only reproach is a subtle warmth. What I like about this wine though is the subtle interplay of structural elements that contribute mightily to the sense of harmony and grace, which is relatively unusual for such a big wine. In short, this is first-rate as well though I would note that my score assumes that the reduction displayed on the nose will not last.
