In most vintages, the Dalla Valle Cabernet lies in the formidable shadow of the Maya, but not in 2001. Dark plum fruit, espresso, dried herbs and spice build into the resonant, satisfying finish. LP96 "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-brick colored, it needs a fair bit of swirling to coax out notes of blackcurrant pastilles, blackberry preserves, and baked plums, plus hints of aniseed, crushed rocks, and bay leaves with a touch of iron ore. The medium-bodied palate is bright, crunchy, and impressively youthful, featuring firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness to support the taut, muscular fruit, finishing beautifully pure and fragrant."
