Product Description
AG94 "The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. is voluptuous and racy right out of the gate. Dark toned fruit, spiced aromatics and supple contours make for a super-expressive, sexy Cabernet Sauvignon that is peaking today. Supple tannins add to an impression of seamless beauty. Poor weather during set and flowering further lowered yields that were already predicted to be moderate because of a cool spring in 1995 (potential crop is determined by conditions the previous year). Berries were quite small at harvest, which stretched out over an entire month, longer than usual here. Winemaker Michael Silacci and his team did not bottle the flagship Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon; instead the best lots were kept for the S.L.V. and Fay Cabernets." AG for VM Aug 2026
Antonio Galloni for Vinous Media writes, "Fifty years ago, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. bested some of France’s best-known wines at an unassuming bling tasting. That tasting, chronicled as the Judgment of Paris, became a cultural phenomenon that changed the wine world. On the eve of the 50th anniversary of this momentous occasion, Vinous was thrilled to host a deep retrospective of the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. Vineyard going back to the 1973."
