Product Description

VM93+ "Good full red, the deepest of these '96 Barolos. Superripe, highly aromatic nose combines plum, dark chocolate, mocha, earth and meat; shows a slightly roasted aspect. Very dense and full, with a marzipan sweetness leavened by penetrating acidity. This has chewy extract and superb depth. Finishes with big, rich, chewy tannins and palate-staining, complex flavors of red fruits, torrefaction and earth tones." ST for VM Nov 2000

Robert Parker writes, "This wine exhibits a saturated ruby color with purple nuances. Additionally, it is rich, with lots of extract, tannin, and body. Ceretto's opaque ruby/purple-colored 1996 Barolo Bricco Rocche is sensational stuff. It combines explosive levels of fruit, glycerin, and extract with an uncanny sense of elegance and finesse. There are copious quantities of black cherry fruit, intermixed with raspberries, cedar, spicy oak, licorice, and tar." BT 92-96Pts Published: Auyg 26, 1999

Stephen Tanzer for Vinous Media writes, "The Ceretto Barolos and Barbarescos are considerably improved in the last decade, due in large part to more serious green harvesting, which, according to export manager Federico Ceretto, has reduced production from 8,000-9,000 bottles per hectare to barely 5,000. Ceretto's Barolos spend 30 months in wood, the Barbarescos 18 or 19, followed by at least a year of further aging in bottle prior to release. I tasted the following wines at Ceretto's vinification facility for Barolo in Castiglione Falletto, on top of which sits a giant glass cube that serves as a tasting room and provides a 360-degree view of the best Barolo hilltop sites."
