Myriad Cellars

Founded by talented winemaker Mike Smith, Myriad Cellars is a boutique Napa Valley producer that has earned a reputation for small-production Cabernet Sauvignon from some of Napa’s finest single vineyards. To ensure only the highest quality production, Smith honed his craft under the mentorship of Thomas Rivers Brown, the renowned winemaker behind the super-premium cult wines of Schrader Cellars. Since Myriad's inaugural 2005 vintage, the winery has amassed a loyal following and attracted high praise from wine critics over the past two decades. With these on-going achievements, Mike Smith has accumulated an astonishing thirty-three perfect 100-point scores to his name, cementing his status as one of Napa Valley's most acclaimed winemakers.

The name "Myriad" has its origins in Greece, translating to "innumerable," which Smith associates with the countless aspects that contribute to crafting a great bottle of wine. Smith's dedication to his craft is evident in his hands-on approach to the operation, as he personally handles all of the cellar work to maintain complete control over the entire process and preserve a close connection with the wines.

Myriad Wine: The Prized Fruit of Beckstoffer Dr. Crane

Smith meticulously sources fruit from premium sites around Napa Valley, which includes the iconic Beckstoffer Dr. Crane in St-Helena, a crown jewel of Myriad Cellars portfolio. This historic 4-acre historic vineyard, originally planted in 1858 by Dr. George Belden Crane, has become one of the most sought-after sites for grape cultivation over the past century and half.

Myriad crafts two distinct expressions from the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane vineyard, both limited-production 100% Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings. The Vineyard-Designate bottling showcases the site’s inherent power and density, reflecting the vineyard’s prestige and consistent high quality. The “Elysian” Reserve is a more artisanal expression, carefully selected from exceptional barrels of grapes harvested later in the season, resulting in a fuller, rounder wine. 

Myriad Wine Style: Opulent Vintage Expressions

The terroir and well-draining alluvial soils of Dr. Crane impart inky, deep hues and a refined concentration, resulting in wines of remarkable depth, especially in phenomenal vintages. The back-to-back 2018 and 2019 vintages represent some of the best years in Napa Valley’s recent history. The Myriad Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Cabernet from these vintages have both earned 99-points from wine critics. Jeb Dunnuck describes the 2018 as offering “loads of black and blue fruits, gravelly earth, chocolate, and Asian spice notes as well as a full-bodied, opulent, sexy profile on the palate.” Lisa Perotti-Brown enthusiastically notes that the 2019, “erupts from the glass with a firework display of iron ore, lilacs, star anise and sandalwood scents, over a core of blackcurrant jelly, wild blueberries and chocolate-covered cherries.” Both styles are stunning examples of Napa Valley Cabernet at its most lush and generous.
