Sloan Asterisk Proprietary Red

Sloan Asterisk is the second label from Sloan Estate and is crafted by one of Napa Valley's most talented winemaking teams— Martha McClellan, David Abreu, and Michel Rolland. The label was first produced to three barrels as a private label for a family friend. However, an overwhelming positive reaction prompted Sloan to commercially release bottles as a limited label, only available for select mailing list members.

The inaugural vintage was crafted in 2004, and subsequent releases have seen only 500 cases produced. While formally noted as a second wine, Sloan Asterisk sees younger Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines grown from the same Rutherford vineyard as the flagship cuvée. Bottles are made to be enjoyed in their youth and, at a fraction of the price, serve as an accessible entry into one of Napa's cult boutique estates.

Jeb Dunnuck has labelled the Sloan Asterisk "a mini version of the Grand Vin," comparing the wine to top labels from Pauillac for its densely concentrated profile.

Due to the estate's extremely limited production and notorious reputation as an insider's wine, the Sloan Asterisk is difficult to source on the open market. We are one of the few retailers in the country holding these bottles, with an excellent array of back-vintages available.
