To fully appreciate the 2018 Cervantes Cabernet Sauvignon, let’s explore its origins, characteristics, and the factors that make it a standout wine in its class.
Cervantes Family Vineyards: A Family Story
For Xavier Cervantes and his family, their journey into the world of wine was not just about crafting exceptional vintages but also a testament to their deep-rooted love for food, wine, and togetherness. Xavier, his wife Cecilie, and their three children, Jeronimo (Jero), Ana, and Ximena, hail from Mexico City, where the kitchen was an integral part of their lives, a place where delicious food and wine often brought their family together. This culinary and oenophilic heritage would ultimately lead them to venture into winemaking.
Xavier's love for wine began by enjoying wines from Rioja and various regions in France. His fascination with the world of wine grew further when he partnered with the owner of Wölffer Estate Vineyard on Sagaponack, Long Island, through his real estate business. The experience at Wölffer Estate piqued his interest in owning a vineyard, and the dream of creating their own wine label began to take shape.
Their journey to find the perfect piece of land was long and far-reaching, covering Mendoza, Argentina, France, Walla Walla, Washington, and various corners of Napa Valley. In 2012, they discovered a sprawling 1,100-acre ranch in Pope Valley. This picturesque property, named Hine Ranch by the Cervantes family, encompasses elevations ranging from 600 to over 1,000 feet, offering breathtaking views of the valley, neighboring properties like Hardin Ranch and St. Supery's Dollarhide Ranch, and the Cedar Roughs Wilderness natural park to the east.
Their winemaking journey officially began in 2015, together with the legendary Napa Cult estate Screaming Eagles winemaker, Andy Erickson. Ericksons repertoire not only includes the infamous Screaming Eagle, he’s also graced some of Napas finest with his vinous skill-set, including Favia, Dalla Valle, Mayacamas, Arietta, Harlan and Staglin. Cervantes has been producing beautiful wines ever since.
The 2018 Cervantes Cabernet Sauvignon is a crowning achievement for the Cervantes family, and it reflects their unwavering dedication to crafting exceptional wine. This vintage is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Franc component was sourced from the Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, while future vintages will feature their estate-grown Cabernet Franc.
Cervantes Wine Label – A Symbol Of Unity
Xavier Cervantes wanted to create a brand that would represent and honor his family and their deep-rooted connection. Choosing a label that encapsulated their essence was no easy task.
His source of inspiration came from within the family —Jero, Xavier's son, remembered that his father had created a brand years ago that held sentimental value for the family. This revelation led them to choose a label that felt like a perfect fit for their wines.
The Cervantes wine label is a beautiful reflection of their family's unity. It features the first initial of each family member's name, creating a unique and personal touch. Above the brand, an image of a crown with five points of a keep, reminiscent of a tower in a castle, adds a regal and meaningful touch.
This label is not just a representation of their wines; it's a symbol of the Cervantes family's legacy, a tribute to the bonds that tie them together, and a testament to their shared journey in the world of wine. It's a label that encapsulates their love for tradition, wine and, most importantly, each other.
A Dream Come True
The 2018 Cervantes Cabernet Sauvignon is a testament to a family's passion for wine and their relentless pursuit of excellence. This wine not only encapsulates the beauty of Napa Valley but also represents the culmination of a dream that has now become a part of their family's legacy. The Cervantes Cabernet Sauvignon invites wine enthusiasts to experience the art of winemaking, the story of a family's journey, and the distinctive flavors of Napa Valley in each bottle. It's a true testament to the power of family, perseverance, and a shared love for food, wine, and each other.
