Casanova di Neri

Casanova di Neri has laid claim as one of Italy's top Brunello producers since its inception in 1971. With over 200 hectares of land across seven vineyards in Montalcino, Tuscany, Casanova di Neri Brunello produces dense, powerful wines that have won the coveted Tre Bicchieri award and Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year. The estate is now led by the 3rd generation of Neri family winemaking, emphasizing its hospitality efforts, breadth of wine offerings, and innovation in the vineyard.

Casanova di Neri Montalcino: Tuscan Origins

Casanova di Neri is set on one of Italy's oldest plots, with a history dating back to 814, when Holy Roman Emperor Louis the Pious awarded the lands sub Monte Licini. Its current settlement was founded 200 years later, and by the mid-19th century, had become an agricultural district for low-income families. 

In 1971, Giovanni Neri, a grain merchant passionate about wine, founded Casanova di Neri after purchasing the 200-hectare working farm, Podere Casanova. The rural property was located on the eastern side of Montalcino and served as the home of only the 30th wine estate in the region at the time. Today, Montalcino boasts over 250 estates, as Casanova di Neri served as a pioneer in the region. Its first vintage, the 1977 Vino Rosso dai Vigneti di Brunello, caught the attention of wine enthusiasts across the region, though it was not until the "Etichetta Bianca's" (White Label) creation that the estate gained continental stardom. Casanova di Neri's Brunello garnered praise across Europe, winning the gold medal at the Challenge International du Vin in 1987 and the top Tre Bicchieri in 1994.

Unfortunately, Giovanni passed away in the early 90s, leaving his son, Giacomo, to take ownership of the estate. Giacomo proved more than worthy to lead Casanova di Neri, catapulting into international recognition when the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova was awarded the 2006 Wine Spectator 'Wine of the Year.' The bottle became only the third Italian wine in the publication's history to claim the award, illustrating Casanova di Neri's dedication to crafting singular wines. 

Casanova di Neri Wine: Hillside Cellar and Winemaking

Casanova di Neri holds one of Italy's most meticulously designed cellars: a stone facility built into the hillside overlooking the beautiful Montalcino landscape. The cellar's north-facing position ensures temperature and humidity levels are constantly and naturally regulated. Furthermore, the intricate design creates the lowest possible environmental impact and spreads across three levels. 

The balcony serves as the starting point for the vinification process, as the grape bunches are first sorted on the terrace, then brought inside for destemming. Here, a second sorting process takes place in an optical sorting machine, which funnels the fruit into fermentation tanks on the lower floor. This temperature-controlled room contains truncated conical vats of steel and wood, housing the wine before it is finally barrel and bottle aged.

It's world-famous Casanova di Neri Brunello 'White Label' is among the world's greatest Brunellos and is renowned for its power, muscle, and balance. Unlike most Brunellos, Casanova di Neri Brunello can be enjoyed young or aged, holding exceptional cellar potential and perfect to open a few years after creation.
