Emmanuel Rouget: Echézeaux Grand Cru - Nephew and Successor of Iconic Henri Jayer

Emmanuel Rouget

The owner of a range of vineyards is nephew and successor to one of the most famed and critically acclaimed winemakers, Henri Jayer. Emmanuel Rouget was hired in 1976 by his uncle and has first-hand experience with some of the most expensive Pinot Noir in the world. His base vineyard in Flagey-Echézeaux is home to some of the most sought-after Pinot Noir in Burgundy.

With just 3.4 acres of vines in Echézeaux, the grand cru bottles are low in production but high in demand. Certain bottles have the ‘Georges Jayer’ alternative label which uses grapes from his smaller plots but is still produced by Rouget. The exclusivity of these bottles turns them into collectibles.

Echézeaux

Echézeaux is located just above the well-known vineyards of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy’s Côtes de Nuits region. The exclusively Pinot Noir vines are grown in clay-rich soils and are known to produce full-bodied and heavily spiced fruit. The appellation is home to 11 lieux-dits with Emmanuel Rouget having claim in three of them, Clos St-Denis, Les Cruots (or Vignes Blanches), and Les Treux.

Henri Jayer

During his career, Henri Jayer focused on his family's estate and vineyards, which included prized vineyard sites such as Cros Parantoux and Richebourg. Henri Jayer became synonymous with the excellence and iconic status of Burgundy winemaking.
