"More perfect scores than any other wines in the world!"
says Robert Parker of Guigal's single vineyard Côte Rôties! Maybe that is why it is referred to as a desert island wine.
E. Guigal
This producer was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal and is one of the most notable in Rhône Valley. Located on the western banks of the Rhône River, this Syrah-focused producer has three flagship wines made from vines grown on the famed Côte Rôtie slopes. The three wines, La Turque, La Landonne, and La Mouline have each earned several 100-point scores from Robert Parker and are some of the most sought-after in the region.
Côte Rôtie
Côte Rôtie is the northernmost appellation of Rhône, and because of its high elevation of around 330 meters (1150 feet), has a unique terroir and microclimate that creates characteristics specific to the appellation. Côte Rôtie is also one of the smallest appellations in Rhône with only three producers that can claim the title. Limited production from this appellation combined with its consistent high-scoring wines puts the bottles in some of the highest demand for the entire region.
La Turque
La Turque is made from a Syrah-based blend made from vines that are up to 75 years old. The wine is stored for 42 months in new oak before its release which gives the wine its dense and aromatic qualities. The 2005 vintage is legendary for many regions in France, and Rhône was no exception. This bottle is ready to drink now and will keep for another two to three decades.

Critical Acclaim:
"The 2005 Cote Rotie la Turque is utterly profound, and a desert island wine if there ever was one. Crème de cassis, blackcurrants, chocolate, barbecued meats and bacon fat all literally soar from the glass of this full-bodied, structured, perfectly balanced Cote Rotie that doesn’t have a hair out of place. It’s just now at the early stages of drinkability and will benefit from 2-4 more years in the cellar, and keep for 2-3 decades after that." JD for WA Dec 2016

"Pure magic, the 2005 Côte Rôtie La Turque is another wine that’s hitting its stride and drinking fabulously well. Deep ruby/plum-hued, with a monster bouquet of bacon fat, barbecued meats, chocolate, graphite, and spring flowers as well as a huge core of dark fruits, it’s full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, has silky tannins, and a finish that won’t quit. It’s a thrill a minute and a legendary wine to enjoy over the coming 20-30 years or more." JD Apr 2020
