These impressive 3L bottles, equivalent to four standard bottles, represent the pinnacle of wine presentation and have been cherished by collectors and connoisseurs for generations, offering an unparalleled way to savor premium wines.

The Origin of Double Magnum Bottles

The term "double magnum" naturally evolved from the already impressive magnum format, signifying a bottle twice its size. This grand 3L format traces its roots back to the great wine houses of Europe, where they were originally used for special cuvées and exceptional vintages. The production of double magnums has always been limited, adding to their prestige and collectible nature.

Throughout wine history, double magnums have been reserved for the most celebrated occasions and the finest wines. Their imposing presence at auctions, high-end restaurants, and exclusive events has solidified their status as a symbol of vinous luxury and extravagance.

The Advantages of Double Magnum Wines: Unmatched Scale and Complexity

Double magnum bottles offer a host of benefits that elevate the wine experience to extraordinary heights. Their generous volume allows for even slower, more graceful aging compared to standard bottles or even magnums. This gradual maturation process often results in wines of exceptional complexity and depth, with nuanced flavors that continue to evolve over decades.

These monumental bottles are the ultimate choice for grand celebrations and gatherings, instantly becoming the centerpiece of any event. The act of opening and pouring from a double magnum is a spectacle in itself, adding an element of theater to wine service that enhances the overall experience for all involved.

Explore Grand Cru Liquid Assets' Premium Double Magnum Selection

At Grand Cru Liquid Assets, our double magnum collection represents the crème de la crème of the wine world. Their scarcity and impressive format make them highly prized at auctions and among serious collectors. The superior aging potential of wines in double magnum format adds significantly to their appeal, as these larger bottles allow fine wines to develop and mature over extended periods, often outliving their standard-sized counterparts.
It's worth noting that double magnums are produced in very limited quantities, often numbering in the dozens rather than hundreds or thousands. This rarity, combined with their impressive provenance and careful handling throughout their history, can lead to substantial appreciation in value over time.

Optimal Storage and Serving

Proper storage is crucial for preserving the quality of double magnum wines. These large bottles should be stored horizontally in a cool, dark environment with stable temperature and humidity. Due to their size, special consideration should be given to cellar space and bottle supports.

When the time comes to serve these magnificent wines, remember that older vintages may require decanting several hours in advance to allow for proper aeration and separation of sediment. The serving process itself becomes a memorable event, often requiring two people to manipulate the bottle safely.

Experience Unparalleled Luxury: Your Double Magnum Journey Begins Here

Start your vinous adventure with our Double Magnum Collection. To Kalon is gravelly, eluvial, loamy soils; Georges III Vineyard is an old creek bed; and Las Piedras Vineyard in St. Helena is planted on old river rock and gravelly loam. All of these blocks utilized for Schrader’s wines encompass over 25+ acres and are custom-farmed – as Fred Schrader likes to say, essentially “virtual vineyards,” even though they’re not owned by the Schraders. Their initial focus, which has proven so successful, is essentially a microscopic study of different clones planted in different blocks with exactly the same philosophy of viticulture, harvesting, winemaking, élevage and bottling. Production of all the 2012s, which was a slightly more generous and later harvest than 2013 with bigger berries, ranges from 200 cases for the Old Sparky and Georges III, to 520 for the CCS, 420 for the T6, 625 for the RBS, 370 for the Schrader, 620 for the LPV and 100 cases for the newest baby, the Colesworthy, which is a selection of the best barrels of their Las Piedras offering. Some of the other characteristics of these wines are that they all spend about 20 months in barrel, but the percentages of new Darnajou and new Taransaud varied from cuvée to cuvée, although the CCS is 100% new Darnajou, as are the Old Sparky and the Colesworthy. Finished alcohol on the 2012s is in line with other vintages, at 14.4%-14.6%. And in 2013, virtually identical numbers of 14.4%-14.6% were achieved. This bottle was tasted throughout its initial opening, decanting and over an ensuing three hours. Just entering its tertiary phase, the nose is arresting in its balance of intensity and poise. Aromas of potting soil, brick dust and dried thyme are framed by the last remnants of dark fruits. The palate is supple yet bright, persistent yet enticing, wrapped up in a delicate grit. Still structured and very much alive, this has at least 10 years ahead of it before the freshness recedes, after which it will still be a delicious wine for another decade." ML for DR Feb 2020
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0319/8592/6203/files/USRPHEJPEI-3000-1985-F0L0C0_86d21f14-bfcc-43d6-a11e-94911a86f8fa.jpg?v=1768594111
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0319/8592/6203/files/USRFANMERC-3000-2013-F0L0C0_0cfd1820-ba54-4645-99bf-8dc4274cc7da.jpg?v=1768594083
2013-plumpjack-cabernet-sauvignon-reserve-oakville-d-magnum-3l
2013 Plumpjack, Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Oakville, D-Magnum (3L)
RP100 The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Estate Oakville is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot aged in 100% new French oak.
