Seventy-eight percent of it came from the 11 Confessions Vineyard and the balance from Bien Nacido and the White Hawk. The biggest news at Screaming Eagle is the release of a second wine, a project that has been in the works for a number of years. Owner Stan Kroenke and his team wanted to make sure their new wine was up to the estate’s standards, and have only released the first vintages over the last few months. I tasted all four vintages of Screaming Eagle’s second label, Second Flight, next to Screaming Eagle itself, which allowed for a fascinating set of comparisons of both wines across a number of vintages. Like its big brother, Second Flight is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine, but here the Merlot plays a much more significant role. This began with a very ripe character but gained freshness and a higher pitch in the glass as the tannins came into harmony. Still, there's an edgy quality to the finish that I did not notice in the 2009 or 2010. This will be the first release of a new wine from Bill Harlan, from a property just over a mile south of Harlan Estate, in the hills above Dominus.\" ST for VM Jun 2012","brand":"Promontory","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":32967206207547,"sku":"USR:HAR:PROM-1500-2008-F0L0C0","price":2495.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0319\/8592\/6203\/files\/USRHARPROM-1500-2008-F0L0C0.jpg?v=1768490263"},{"product_id":"joseph-phelps-cabernet-sauvignon-backus-vineyard-2008-750ml","title":"2008 Joseph Phelps, Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Bottle (750ml)","description":"RP97 \"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus is a beautifully delineated wine endowed with tons of personality and sheer class. It’s concentrated, medium to full-bodied, has beautiful tannins, and a thrilling finish. Spring flowers, crushed rocks, creme de cassis and some subtle oak are followed by a full-bodied, concentrated wine that transcends the vintage character in its power, richness, and aging potential. It also exhibits tremendous precision, purity, and depth of character. It is more forward than the 2010 is likely to be, but probably not as sumptuous as the 2009 will turn out to be.
