1988 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, DRC, Echezeaux Grand Cru, Bottle (750ml)

Wonderfully complex nose with aromas of spice, tea and crushed dried roses followed by rich, detailed and relatively big flavors. Echézeaux often can be one of those wines that displays grand cru complexity and premier cru weight and a trace of finishing rusticity but this '88 is a big wine and every bit a true grand cru. Very impressive. Another recent bottle tasted in Burgundy was a good deal harder and austere and while it was still good, it did not have the above bottle's balance. (BH) Nov 2017
